USA v Venezuela at Lion & Rose
Written by Chris
Thursday, 19 January 2012 07:11

The the Lion & Rose in The Village at Westlake (website, map) wants to become a premier area soccer bar. They are already an official US Soccer Bar, and they're in sponsorship talks with the Aztex. To let us give them a trial run, they're hosting a watch event for the USA men's friendly vs. Venezuela this Saturday, Jan. 21. Kickoff is at 8:00PM; food and drink specials will be available.

This game will only be available on Galavision or streamed online from ESPN3.com. Come out and join us in previewing the players that Klinsman has brought in to his January camp. Let's show the Lion & Rose that catering to Austin's soccer fans is worth their effort -- it's a great opportunity to bring along a friend or 3 -- and let's see how the pub's efforts stack up. Feel free to RSVP on the Facebook event page, see you there!

(Note: many of you are also members of American Outlaws Austin (and if you're not, you should be!). Please note that the official partner bar for AO Austin remains Fado downtown; this event is simply a one-time chance to give the Lion & Rose a trial run.)

Austin Aztex Inaugural Scarf Design Released
Written by The Gaffer
Saturday, 07 January 2012 17:07

Saturday, January 7, 2012 :: In a meeting of the Aztex Advisory Council this morning, the inaugural scarf for the Austin Aztex squad was released.  In a design effort lead by Eberly's Army, the scarf will be the first for the new Austin Aztex PDL squad which will begin play in May 2012.  True to the word of owner David Markley, the supporters lead the effort towards this quintessential symbol of football/soccer.  The scarf is full of symbology, from both Austin, the Aztex and the broader soccer culture:

  • The navy blue and gold stripes represent both the primary colors of the new Aztex, with the stripes being a common scarf presence in European supporters scarves for years.
  • The capital sillhouette signifies Austin's position as the capital of the state of Texas.
  • The star on the middle of the front panel represents the fact that Texas is "The Lone Star State".

So without further delay, below is the scarf!!!

Now that the design has been decided, the scarves will be made and soon on sale.  The scarves will be on sale at the Austin Aztex website, Soccer Post and matches throughout the year!

Report from Austin Aztex Meeting
Written by The Gaffer
Sunday, 11 December 2011 09:08

Sunday, December 11, 2011 :: I was able to participate in a meeting of the Austin Aztex Advisory board on Saturday morning, along with Eberly's Army Vice President Ed Easton and Minister of Information Chris Grayson.  The meeting also included Aztex owner and Eberly's Army friend, David Markley, Ignacio "Nacho" Araujo (Advisor for Hispanic Outreach), Stephen Rodriguez (Director of Marketing) and Catalina Berry.

There were a number of topics discussed, many of which are still confidential.  However, I did want to let the Eberly's Army membership know of some items that they would find interesting:

-  The identification of the stadium for 2012 is very close to being finalized.  I believe that fans will be pleased with the locale, if all things commence successfully.

-  The USL PDL 2012 schedule is being tweaked right now, and the estimation for release is in January.  This falls into line with what we've seen in the past with previous USL associated teams.  Know that as soon as this is made available we'll post it.

-  There are Austin Aztex t-shirts that are going on sale at The Soccer Post and other soccer shops in Austin in the coming days (just in time for Christmas!).  These are similar to the shirts that many of you have (dark blue with the crest), although the crest is on the left breast pocket, and will be available in men's and women's sizes.

-  We will be working on designing and ordering scarves in the coming days.  We will put some design ideas at different locations (including here, our BigSoccer forums, Twitter).

-  Although the schedule is yet to be announced, we do understand that in addition to the USL PDL home matches, we'll also have 4 home matches for the Super 20 team in the summer.

So keep your eyes and ears open for more information.  Know that as we celebrate the coming of 2012, we are that much closer to having the Aztex back on the field.  As you look forward to the season starting, be talking to friends about the Aztex.  It's our responsibility as the Supporters to help the FO in getting as many folks jazzed about the coming season as possible.  We've worked very hard as Eberly's Army and the broader soccer community to get this team back, now it's up to us to keep it!!!
