Sunday, March 7, 2010 :: It's that time of year again!!! The months of waiting are over, as the Austin Aztex traveled to Houston to play their first match of the 2010 season. The RAW took on familiar foe, MLS side Houston Dynamo, 5 days after the squad reported to training camp. Unfortunately, the Gaffer was unable to attend the match, as he was out of town. However, a contingent of Aztex faithful were able to make the trip down to H-town. Chris "The Aztexan" Grayson has proposed the name "The Roadkill Cup", which was then picked up by KOOP's "Futbol en Vivo" Arch Bell. For those of you who may not recall, this is the 3rd time we've played Houston since the beginning of last year (2009). In fact, the relationship with the Dynamo goes well beyond the pitch, and has been seen between the front offices. An example of this is that Erick Ustruck, who scored the equalizer for the Dynamo, actually played for the Aztex as a loan last year for a period of time. The feeling from everyone I've heard has been that we did exceptionally well for a first match, especially on the backline. Below are match reports from those that attended the match, as well as some of the stats that I was able to find. As we go forward in the season, these will be expanded. As we look at the Aztex players, there were a number of faces that were on trial with the squad, who we may see signed. This includes: - Sean Powers
- Wes Allen
- Richard Edger
- Stephan Campbell
- David Shriver
- Maxwell Griffin
- Jarrod Smith
We'll see who comes back, although it was good to see Wes Allen in the mix, as he was a member of the Aztex 2008 PDL squad, as well as their 2009 USL1 squad. MATCH REPORTS Attendance :: ~1,000 | | Austin Aztex | Houston Dynamo
