Friday, March 26, 2010 :: This match report will be pretty light. Unfortunately, due to a trip to Mexico City, I was unable to make it to Laredo for the match. However, thanks to the Aztex' Shermin (Trainer), we were able to get some information from the match via SMS. Chantico's Army was then able to provide tweet updates via the new match cast Twitter account, Aztex_MatchCast.
From the updates that we got, it really sounded like the Aztex were having some difficulty shaking the cobwebs out. Although they went up a man advantage following a straight red card for Laredo player, Danny Galvan, the Aztex were unable to convert the advantage into goals. In fact, it was the Heat who went up first, when well known Heat player Felix Garcia was taken down in the penalty box. The referee called for a penalty kick, which was then converted by Juan De Dios Ibarra, giving the Heat a 1-0 lead. For may following the match in Austin, the concern was that we would go down to a PDL side who's had even less time in pre-season than we have! In fact, the Heat FO was hesitant to even allow fans to watch the match, which was evidenced by the reported 50 attendees. However, in the second half, the Aztex started to come back to life. In the 58', a trialist with the Aztex, Danny, was substituted in for recent signing, Maxwell Griffin. It appears that this may have been Danny's first appearance for the Aztex, as I don't see any mention of him in previous match reports. However, I imagine we may hear more about him, as it was Danny who scored the equalizer in the 80', giving the Aztex some breathing room. The Aztex continued their scoring ways, when Jamie Watson scored to give the Aztex a 2-1 advantage, that they took to FT. The next match for the Aztex is this coming Wednesday, when they travel to Dallas to take on MLS side FCDallas in a friendly. KO is at noon. Although I will be in Dallas at the time, I won't be able to make it to the match. However, I'm hoping to get updates from the match to tweet to the loyal Aztex Nation. If you're wondering why it's at noon, so are the Aztex. My understanding is that FCDallas wanted to play it at 10:30, which was not enough time for the guys to travel and prepare. I just wish it was later that night so I could see it. MATCH REPORTS Attendance :: 50 | | Austin Aztex
