The Aztex took to the field Saturday night, August 1st in the second Carolina match on this road swing.  The lads were hoping to reclaim some ground lost in the past week, especially as one of the boys was experiencing a home coming of sorts.  Aztex Midfielder Michael Callahan, who is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, actually worked out with the Railhawks back in February, as well as having played 3 years with their PDL squad (according to this article, referenced on a Tweet by Chantico's Army own Chris Grayson).  The hope was that although a road match, with Callahan's family and friends coming to WakeMed stadium, it would almost feel like a home game.

So, along with Mike Callahan, the starting line ups for the squads were...

Once again, in the early minutes of the match, the Aztex managed to move the ball very well.  The control of the ball in the mid section was allowing good movement from the back to the front lines.  In fact, with the exception of a couple of backine break throughs on the part of the Railhawks, it really felt as if there was some hope for us.

However, as we've seen too many times before, the opposing teams scores the first strike, and the Aztex are stunt into stunned silence.  In the 40', the Railhawks were able to get the ball to Joseph Kabwe who headed the ball past Sam Reynolds into the back of the Aztex net.  Once the match was restarted, you could tell that the Aztex were thrown off kilter.  The play that had previously been unified and chipping away at the Railhawks back line, disappeared.

At the half, several Aztex were replaced, including bringing Jarius Holmes into the midfield to try and make a difference in our attacking.  Unfortunately, it did not make a difference as the Railhawks' Sallieu Bundu put the ball in the 69'.  From what we saw on USLLive.com, it appeared to even be an own goal on the Aztex, but the stats state differently.  Soon after that, Coach Adrian Heath chose to put Eddie Johnson and Jeff Harwell into the match to try and spark something into the play of the Aztex.  However, even with these players in, the damage had been done to the scoreline as well as the Aztex confidence.  Therefore, when Andriy Budnyy scored again in 85', it was the final nail in the coffin.

So at the end of the night, we found ourselves leaving the Carolinas without any points, any goals, and seemingly, still trying to find our personality.  The lineups for each match continue to be changed based player availability from injury, loans and the search for a combination that will work.  It also saw Austin 11 points out of the 7th and final playoff position currently held by Miami FC.  These are points that will be difficult to regain, as we have only 9 games (a possible 27 points) remaining in the season.  The question the Aztex faithful are asking themselves is, "Can we turn the ship around in time?".
