Aztex v. Victoria Highlanders

MATCHTRACKER!!

Full
That it's folks.  Aztex drop a decision losing 0-2 to the Victoria Highlanders.
90'
2 additional minutes added in stoppage time.
88'
No reports from the stadium, so it appears that both sides are just playing out the clock. The Aztex had a couple of chances that were saved by the Highlanders.  Nick Noble returned the favor by blocking a Highlanders strike.
78'
The crowd has been announced at the stadium as being around 900.  Additionally, Kieron Bernard comes on for Wes Allen.
73'
The Highlanders are playing pretty well, no doubt, to try and impress.  From what I heard earlier from the Colonial Tims article, the Aztex are potentially looking to take a couple of Highlander players to the UK for the Stoke / Burnley trip.
67'
The Highlanders get another penalty, and convert it to take the score Aztex 0, Highlanders 2.
63'
Pretty quiet at this point.  No news.
55'
Sullivan Silva substituted in for David Horst.  Maybe David will have better luck with the 9 year old juggling champion.
51'
David Horst gets a yellow card.
47'
In this half, we see Michael Dello-Russo in for Ryan McMahen.  So far, this is the only substitution we've heard about.
46'The lads are under way in the second half.  Can the Aztex adjust their play to convert some of the opportunities that were missed in the first half?
Half
Sullivan Silva does a juggling demo at half, and when the Highlanders picked someone out of the stands to go up against him, it was a 9 year old girl...who is the world juggling champion.  Oops.
45'
That's the half.
40'
The Highlanders fire a screamer towards the Aztex goal that is pushed just wide by Nick Noble.  Mike Callahan then takes the ball to the Victoria goal, which was managed neatly by the Highlanders keeper.
37'
The Aztex get a free kick just outside the Highlanders penalty box that is taken by David Horst, but pushed just wide of the goal.
30'
The Aztex should have been awarded a penalty, but the official somehow develops a short term case of blindness.
27'There's a scramble in the Highlanders goal mouth that almost results in an Aztex goal.
23'
The scorer for the Highlanders was M. Pele.  Yep, the guy we just talked about.
23'
Lyle Adams trips a Highlander in the box and given a penalty which is converted. Aztex 0, Highlander 1.
21'
No updates from Victoria, so the score must still be 0-0.
13'Word is that Highlanders #12, M. Pele, is built really well for a Midfielder.  True to their name, there are bagpipes playing to get the crowd going!!
11'We're under way now, and the Highlanders are really pressing the issue.  They've already had a corner kick that was dealt easily with by Nick Noble.
9:16 p.m. CDTAs we wait for kick off, make sure you check out http://tinyurl.com/mcgdpn.  Really nice stadium, bus from the pub, and beer in stadium.  Additionally, they have a roof over the stands with rather nice VIP boxes.  Road trip next year anyone?
9:07 p.m. CDTJust waiting for kick off know.  Reports are that the crowd looks very good, as the Highlanders did quite a bit of advertising.
9:05 p.m. CDTThe line-ups are starting to come in, as we find Gifton Noel-Williams and Jarius Holmes up front, with Nick Noble in goal.  Additionally, Lyle Adams, Wes Allen, Mike Callahan, David Sias, Ryan McMahen, Kevin Sakuda, David Horst and Zack Pope round out the lineup.
9:00 p.m. CDT
We're just a few minutes from kick off in Victoria!  Beautiful weather with partly cloudy skies and temperature of about 72F.

UPDATE :: There's a great column about the Aztex friendly at the Times Colonist this morning that includes pictures of Adrian Heath and some of the players practicing yesterday.

The Austin Aztex USL1 squad will be facing PDL side Victoria Highlanders this evening at 9:00 p.m. CDT at Bear Mountain Stadium in Victoria, BC.  This is the culmination of a relationship with the PDL side (Western Conference, Northwest Division) that also saw 3 of their players spend a week in Austin training with the Aztex USL1 side.

Chantico's Army has arranged to get updates from the pitch this evening, and will post the updates both to the Chanticos_Army Twitter account as well as on the main page of the Chantico's Army website.  So track your Austin Aztex as they continue their tour through the Pacific Northwest!
